Bev
Cowan;
In 1981 I obtained
my first job in the mortgage banking industry
working as a legal secretary for a company
attorney at Midland Mortgage Co. During my years
with midland , I completed my Paralegal Degree at
the University of Oklahoma. As a paralegal, I
learned more about state and federal regulatory
requirements than you will ever want to know!
But, I also discovered how much I liked problem
solving -- identifying issues and then finding
solutions.
Later,
I transferred into the Customer Service
Department, as a supervisor. I finally got to
work with real people instead of burying my nose
in books and paperwork. That's when I realized
how much I enjoyed working with people.
When
I transferred to Kansas, my family, like many of
the people who relocate to Arizona, decided to
buy a home. This was our first
home, and even though I "worked in the
industry", I had no idea of what was in
store for me! We were new to the area and did not
know anyone. Our builder recommended a loan
officer. We saw the loan officer only two times.
The interest rate jumped one whole point from the
time we filled out the paper work to the time we
closed on our loan. (And of course we were not
told about the increase until everything was
finished and we were ready to sign the final
documents.) We were so confused. My husband was
sooo relieved all the agony was finally over. The
impact and importance of our loan interest rate
hit us about 30 days later when we had to make
our first payment. We realized then that our
whole financial lives were put into the hands of
a person we had only seen and talked to twice!
That's
why I enjoy what I do today. As a loan officer I
take the time to thoroughly explain the loan
application; discuss the issues that may affect
the borrower's ability to qualify; state what
options are available to them; and help them
determine the best plan of action to use in order
to receive the desired result, that is, to obtain
financing. I've personally experienced a process
that was not professional, and I feel no one
should go through that. I truly believe that my
job is to make the loan process smoother and
easier for you. That's what being a loan officer
is all about.
It's
been fifteen years since I first began working in
the mortgage banking industry. How time does
fly!! I had a supervisor who once said,
"Beverly's vocabulary doesn't contain the
word can't. Unfortunately. I
cannot promise that all loans will be closed.
However, I can promise that I will work to the
best of my ability to ensure that your loan will
be handled in a professional manner.
